Wilmington Trap Stars is a major community arts collaboration between the Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts, University of Delaware’s Department of Black American Studies, Christiana Cultural Arts Center, The Creative Vision Factory, and Barry’s Events. This exhibition was initiated by Dr. Yasser Payne, Professor of Black American Studies at the University of Delaware, and organized by Gretchen Hupfel Curator Maiza Hixson, Chief Curator of the Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts with Executive Director of the Christina Cultural Arts Center Raye Jones Avery, and Executive Director of the Creative Vision Factory Michael Kalmbach, and Folk Art Collector Barry Schlecker of Barry’s Events. This arts-for-social justice exhibition features over one hundred artworks that creatively examine structural inequality and its correlation with physical violence in Wilmington Please join us for Wilmington Trap Stars: A Street Art Festival on April 4th and 5th, 2014 A reception will be held in the DCCA Lobby on Friday, April 4, 2014 from 5:45-7:00 p.m. followed by a music, theater, spoken word, and rap program from 7:00-9:00 pm during Art on the Town opening.
